Statistics: 90% of SHSs in Ghana have been connected to free Wi-Fi – Ursula Owusu
Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Minister-Designate of Connectivity and Digitalisation, announced that 90 percent of the country’s senior high schools are linked to free Wi-Fi.
According to Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful, the question now is “how to replicate that as the Ministry of Education seeks to introduce blended learning (a mixture of virtual learning and face-to-face) in junior high schools and, therefore, we will need to put in place the infrastructure to support this.” One of our focus fields is that.
This was revealed by the Ablekuma West MP when she appeared on Monday, 15 February 2021, before Parliament’s Appointments Committee and echoed it in a Facebook post.
Speaking at the launch of the government’s free tertiary Wi-Fi project in Accra in November 2020, Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia noted that the government’s ‘free Wi-Fi for schools’ project would also support all 260 District Education Offices and 46 Colleges of Education in the region.
The aim of the project is to extend the reach of education, information, communication, and technology (ICT), study and acquisition of knowledge in schools.
