SHS Courses Offered In Ghana

SHS Courses and Subject Combination Guidelines

The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment provides information on the recommended subject combination ins the new curriculum for Senior High Scholls (SHS), Senior High Technical Schools (SHTS) and STEM schools.

It outline the maximum and minimum number of subjects for external assessment (like WASSCE), mandatory subjects, and learning areas for JHS graduates entering SHSs, SHTs and STEM schools.

A learner can finish secondary school and exit with a minimum of 7 subjects and a maximum of 9 subjects to be externally examined through the WASSCE.

Learners may study additional subjects only in year one or up to year two. Those additional subjects taken will be assessed internally and the results captured in the transcripts.

The following are a list of senior high school courses offered in Ghana grouped as courses and their various subjects - including core and elective subjects.

Note: The selection of the learning areas and the subject combination are dependent on the individual school's capacity (resources) and focus areas. So for example there are some schools that may offer Geography as a subject for students pursing General Science.

Visit our schools page and for any school of your choice you will know which specific blend of courses are offered.
