The Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah says the government is prepared to reopen the country’s borders for final year foreign students who left Ghana to their home country amid the unexpected closure of schools over the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The reopening of borders to only the final year foreign students is to enable them to return to Ghana following Akufo-Addo’s directive for schools to reopen.

The government spokesperson said arrangements are being done with the Ministry of Education towards the reopening of the border.

“You know schools are shut except for final year students. So for final year foreign or international students, my understanding is that the Education Ministry has said that they can engage with the various University management for an arrangement to be made for them”

“So for final year foreign students, that arrangement can be made through the specific institution in collaboration with the Ministry in charge of education,” the Information Minister said on GTV’s #AskTheInfoMinistry programme on Tuesday.

President Akufo-Addo in his 10th televised address to the nation announced for the reopening of schools to only final year students in the country to enable them to complete their academic year and also prepare for their exit examination.

The government addressing the concerns of foreign final year students has accepted to reopen the country’s borders for such students to return to Ghana to continue their studies.

The government spokesperson, however, indicated that such students will have to consult their schools for the needed arrangements for legal entry into the country.
