Mystery of NSMQ: No Girls SHS has ever won
For the subsequent number of years, the National Science and Math Quiz has become a very competitive event fostering good and healthy academic rivalry among high schools and giving the bragging rights to second cycle students in Ghana.
It’s incomplete to talk about top high schools in Ghana without mentioning some of the girls’ senior high schools such as WESLEY GIRLS – Cape Coast, ABURI GIRLS – Aburi, HOLY CHILD – Cape Coast, ST. MARY’S GIRLS – Accra, Mfantsiman Girls –Cape Coast, Archbishop Porter Girls –Takoradi and many others.
Most of these all-girls’ senior high schools have achieved some feats and earn for themselves some good accolades and impressions in Ghana.

It’s however surprising to know that after twenty-five years of the NSM, no girls’ school in Ghana has ever claimed the championship title.
In 2016, Wesley girls came close to the quarterfinals likewise Krobo Girls’ in NSMQ 2018 also was able to reach as far as the quarter-finals.
We can only continue to ask the questions, how come and what is the problem that no girls school has ever won the title? Could it be a sheer lack of fate?
Well, all we know is that one day, it will surely happen. And it will be a colorful and fantastic moment in the history of the NSMQ.
