The idea of a secondary school was mooted by Bechem Manhene, Nana Fosu Gyeabour I.

The School was established on 23rd February 1966 by the then President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah with 50 students.  

Later the Presbyterian Church of Ghana took over as a public Christian school.

Now the school has a student population of 3500 with 106 tutors and 78 auxiliary staff with school facilities including a 45 Classrooms, 6 Science Labs, 1 Library, 1 Computer Lab among a few others.

The Schools runs as a day and boarding school, and a mixed-gender school.

The school’s had the National Best Teacher Awards - 2019 and 2010. 

Considering the performance trend analysis in the four core subjects: social studies, English, Integrated Science and Mathematics, the school’s average performance are as follows:
